FALSE FIRE ALARMS
A CULPRIT DETECTED

WELLINGTON, June 6, For.several years past tho Wellington Fre Brigade has been frequently summoned by false alarms of fiiy from the A r icinitv of Hankey and Hopper Streets. Three such alarms Avere indulged in last night. On the occasion of tho last one, about a quarter to 12, a Miss Harris, living* in the neighborhood, saw a man in the- act of giving the alarm. He broke the glass of the alarm box Avith a pocket knife. She rushed out and seized him by the coat collar, but the man escaped from Miss Harris, though not before he had cut one of her hands Avith the pocket knife.. The man AA-ent- into his house m South Avenue, off Hopper Street, Avhere the police arrested him. He is a married' man name* John Evans, a dustman in the employ of the corporation.
