MONTHLY MEDAL

A bogey match for Lie monthly medal attracted a large number of entries at the Poverty Bay Golf Club’s links on Saturday afternoon. The links were in good order, and some excellent rounds were recorded. The players played on their tournament handicaps, .and the medal was carried off by P. Barker, who, with a handicap of 20, managed to finish 1 up on the Colonel. G. M. Dodgsliun, wlio has been showing most consistent form throughout the season, did a fine round of 84, going out in 38 and returning in 46, and finishing up “all square.” PKeilia* took one more for the round, covering the out journey,in 41 and taking 44 ror the run home. As his handicap stands) plus 2, he was 1 down. There were a. large number of ladies out on the Jinks, and afternoon tea was provided by Misses E. Coleman and {Sweet. The following were, the best cards returned: —P. Barker (20), 1 up; G. M. Dodgsliun (scr), all square; P. Keilia (plus 2), 1 down; G. B. Smith (16), 1 down ; R. AA 7 illock (15), ] down; B. Moore-Sampson (11), 2 down; H. J. Thodey (15), 3 down; G. AV. AVilloek (2), 3 down; AV. A. O’Meara (30), 3 down ; AV. G. Evans (15), 5 down; F. H. AV. Traill (scr), 5 down.; AV. Gibson (14), 5 down. Players will be pleased to learn that the committee of the -Poverty Bay Golf Club have been successful in securing tho services of McCormack, the North Shore (Auckland) professional, as coach for a time. McCormack won the Open Championship of New Zealand recently, and his ability as a coach is highly spoken of. The coach arrives on the,l6th inst., and it is,certain that local players will gladly avail themselves of the opportunity of securing coaching from so renowned an exponent of the game. Mr. F. H. AV. Traill, hon. secretary of the local Club, has received advice that a team from the Hawke e Bay Golf Club will visit Gisborne to play a series of matches with the poverty Bay Club on the 26th inst. Visits from outside clubs to Gisboine have been few. and far 'between in_the past, ad the near advent of tlib Napientes should stimulate local players to ge; on the very top of their game.

The medal was played Joi throughout the Dominion on Monday, but one card from the Hutt was disqualified. Misfes. Dixon. Steplioiiwn, and Rattray made the records of then links.
