J. NORCROSS’ BANKRUPTOY.
(To the Editor.)
Si, —Your report in this morning’s “Times” of the meeting of creditors in Norcross’ estate, while mainly accurate, is by one or two omissions calculated to mislead, and I ask your indulgence to refer to them. It is pexbaps necessary to premise that I balanced the bankrupt's books, and that Mr. Fiddy audited them at the instance of the creditors. A singularly careless statement was made by one creditor that a sum of £IOO, which was paid by the bankrupt to this wife before purchase of the business, was recouped by him the very day tho advance was made, which enabled him to purchase the business. This statement was passed in silence by Mr. Fiddy, but was refuted by the Deputy Assignee. Subsequently a question of the authenticity of a statement of the bankrupt’s private account in his books cropped up. A creditor asked if it were written in the books, and Mr. Fiddy replied in the negative. I may say that a summary of the contents of this statement was written in the ledger, and the summary specifically, referred to the detailed statement itself attached to the bal-ance-sheet, and this was made before any question of bankruptcy. These may seem small matters, Sir, but they appear very important to me, and I : ust you will find space for my remarks”.—l am, etc., J. GODFREY.
