NEW ALPINE MINE.
A FAVORABLE REPORT
(Special to “Times.”)
GREYMOUTH, June 10. r Dlie New Alpine clean-up yieldecl 3500z5. from! 1000 tons, the value of gold being nearly £llOO, which is considered a. very satisfactory result. Ihe mine manager . reports for the voe - ending Bth June as follows:—Duiin„ the week work was-confined principal y to obtaining filling for slopes, and little, sloping was done. In rising for No slope he had seven feet of reef on top of the stope and eight feet at the bottom. The reef jumped right back into tho footwall, -and the total width of the reef is 12 feet, measuring square across between the walls-. 1 lie hanging wall is coming over very fiat now, so I expect the reef will pinch .a little on the next stope. Up to the qth an additional ninety-three- tons were pad docked, making 177 tons for the week. Mr. Joseph Taylor, who returned from Lyell to-dav after making a thorough inspection ‘of tlie . wotk in . the mine, speaks in very optimistic terms of tho way in which the reef is opening out. The stopes are developing, very well, and large bodies k of stories are being obtained, both in the north and south stopes and the north and smith, level, the quality of the stone showing signs of improvement. Taken altogethei, Mr Taylor considers tliat tlie mine js looking very, well, and he is sanguine .as to its prospects.
