A STRONG CRITICISM. MR JOHN REDMOND’S REMARKS. United Press Association —copyright. LONDON, June 10. Mr John Redmond described tlio Budget as bad, unjust, and oppressive. Old age pensions would certainly benefit' Ireland to the extent of £2,500,000, but the money could have been spent with greater benefit to Ireland in increasing the transport and general development. Tlie Nationalists decided to vote against the second reading of the Bill.

LONDON, June 11
After a vigorous attack by Mr. Balfour and a short, spirited reply by Mr. Asquith, the second reading of the Finance Bill was agreed to by 360 to 209. Sixty-two Nationalists voted with the minority. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, with the sheriffs arid aldermen, robed, appeared •at the bar of the House of Commons to protest against the Budget.
Four hundred Unionists’ amendments were handed in, and many more aro in preparation.
The “Daily Telegraph” states that 60 Liberals are iikely to memoralise the Governrhent to abandon the land tax. 'The paper adds that it is understood that the official advisers of the Exchequer always declared the land proposals impracticable and unworkable.
