MOTU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The ordinary Farmers’ Union meeting was held on Saturday afternoon, sth inst. a fair number being present,’ Mr R. F. Jackson in the chair. An invitation having been sent to Hon. A. ... Hogg, Minister for Labor and Roads to visit .Motu, he replied that he would be pleased to do so when time permitted. There being a dearth of stock reserves between Motu and Opotilci, the Hon. Minister for Lands was asked to remove the difficulty. Ho. will make full enquiries and if there are not sufficient on each of the Pakihi and Motu Papa.moa roads he will instruct the Commissioner for Grown Lands, Auckland, to make the necessary reserves and vest them in the Opotiki County Council. After application had been made, ,Mr Renner, C.P.M., has informed us that a clock has been procured and is being sent io M?tu Post. Office for the benefit of the general pubikb /. Through the energy of tile Chairman £l7 has been offered- towards the fund for supplying Motu streams with trout, and with that help' and 10,000 ova from the Gisborne Acclimatisation Society, a good start ought to be made in this desirable project. The Motu people hope to obtain 30,000 ova from Rotorua, which will come via O.poiiki to Motu in a week or so. Mr C. Hansen has built a local hatchery., and having had past experience, ougKt to be successful in distributing into the small streams around Motu a large percentage from the ova obtained. The Motu Railway League then met. Mr F. Elliott in the chair-. Mr. A. W. Thomson, Motu representative at Auckland Ramvay Conference, sent a full and interesting report of the proceedings. Our delegate was enthusiastic in pleading the right of this district to speedrailway connection, and admitted his task was easy, because of the general feeling throughout the whole, of the East Coast to Auckland that the line ought to be pushed on with all speed. Because of Mr Peacock’s (President Auckland Railway Council) invitation that Mr Thomson sit with the Auckland League as Motu representative, we have asked him to •accept the position and thereby give us a permanent representative in Auckland. In the evening a general meeting was ■ held to consider the advisability of reorganising the Motu Rule Club. Mr P. Wright took the chair. The matter having been discussed a vote was taken resulting in a desire to revive the Club. Seventeen names were then handed as as members. Mr. W. D. S. MacDonald was elected patron, Mr. ‘Peter Wright, president; Messrs E, B. Thomson, C. Hansen, R. F. Jackson, It. R. Henderson, W. Fisher, W.' W. Bridge, A. A. Fraser, I. Richmond, A. Caulton were eleetpd vice-presidents ; Mr T. Elliott, captain, Mr J. Stewart, deputy captain. The Chairman expressed pleasure with the result of the meeting and hoped interest would bo taken in making the Club a credit to the district, and as a club has recently been formed at Matawai, and another is likely to be formed at Opotiki, it is hoped many friendly matches will be held at which each side will do its utmost to carry off the laurels. Mr G. Walker, of Tauranga, is hoping to como and inspect the Club on July 24th., so no time will need to bo lost in gettiug tho Club into order before that date. Motu, June 8,1909.
