Dovonport, Auckland, is suffering so severely from a plague of rats that the Auckland “Herald” considers that the over-harbor suburb could do very, veil with a visit from the “pied Piper of Hamelin.” The stables in a central street are blamed by one person, who wrote to the Borough Council. The writer stated that he had caught seven rats) in one night in his wash-house. He asked for some organised action on the part of the council against the vermin. Mr. John Fuller also laid a complaint. The “Star” reports that a member of the council said facetiously: “If Air. Fuller will persist in singing he must expect to entice rats . round there.” “A few years ago he was a man of considerable means,” said counsel for defendant in a maintenance case at the S.AI. Court in Wellington, the other -day, “but, unfortunately, he speculated in property.” Counsel went on to explain that he had put all his money into suburban property about Wellington, and he w'as now unable to raise one penny on the property. His Worship said that it was no use making an order against defendant. He' had dot got the money, and the Court could not put it into his hands. The. case would be adjourned to give, things a chance of improving. 'ILL Advertisers please note that . .
