A Wanaka - correspondent- writes to the Cromwell “Argus”:—“One'of our local sportsmen reports having had a unique experience while deei-stalking up the Hunter. He picked a stag which had an. unusually loud roar and stalked it unsuccessfully, but on examining Ins victim from close quarters lie’found to his surprise that lie had no horns —a poley stag in the month of May. Some of our sporting men are. searching old files in a,nendeavor to unearth a parallel, while others have summed up the unfortunate animal as a mere hind.”
