The meeting favored an increment value duty, and was unanimously against'-a tax:on ungotten minerals. It is stated that twenty other members sympathised with th© meeting. The, “Daily News” declares that this •cave of th© Liberals is a worse omen for th© Budget than all the mutterings of. discontent from ®tho city and the 'Lords, .hut -.they are a small minority in a majority necessarily needing their votes. .Tlv© general sense.of the party .and country is overwhelmingly favorable to Mr Lloyd-George’s land policy. This tax .is the integral part of<*a great policy, and thero must he no compromise. Th© dissentients must bear the. ■responsibility before their constituents of endangering the greatest .achievement of this Parliament. The ““Daily Chronicle” says that if it claimed Liberal opponents to the 'land taxes the number would be between GO and 70. The “Telegraph” says that Mr Lcmg’s league against the inclusion in -the. Budget of Socialistic and land legislation evoked subscriptions and. offers of help from all parts of tho country and Scotland.. Discontent is rapidly growing.
