WATER POWER.
The Minister of Public Works has issued regulations under which he wifi be prepared to entertain' applications for licenses to use water for water power .purposes. ' A company must submit evidence to the satisfaction of tho Minister that it is duly incorporated and registered. A description will be given of the land on which it is intended to carry on mining operations, with plans showing the handworks proposed, indicating the manner in which the water is to be diverted from the river or other source of supply, and full description of the electrical system to be adopted. There will be a rent charge, of Cd per horse-power capable of being developed by the wbolo of tho vvater authorised to be used under the license, but tho minimum rent charge shall not be Jess than £2 10s per month. The rent charge will bo reduced by onehalf in every case where the water power is used solely for generating electricity for mining purposes. Power is given to tho Governor-in-Council to forfeit,. without compensation, any water delivered at the headworks or dam in excess of. the quantity which the turbines installed are capable of producing. Before the issue of . a license the licensee must deposit with tho Public Trustee the sum of £2 10s for every Government head of water authorised to be used, but not exceeding a maximum deposit of £SOO.
