ELECTRIC LIGHTING AT WAIHOA
(Per Press Association.; WAIROA, June 17. A limited liability company is being formed, called the “Wairoa Electric; Light and Supply Company,” to light the town with electricity. SCHOOL ATTENDANCE ACT. At the Police Court yesterday minimum fines were inflicted for breaches of the School Attendance Act. The Justices refused costs to the Board’s solicitors. MAN AWATU RIVER IN FLOOD-. LEVIN, June 17Very heavy rain fell during the night-.' and the weather continues threatening. There is a flood in the Manawatu river, and settlers are removing their stock from the low-lying lands, fearing a repetition of the floods in former years. A MARITIME LABOR TROUBLE. WELLINGTON, June 17. Trouble has arisen over engaging a crew at Wellington for the steamer Indravelli, which'arrived from Vancouver via- Auckland last Tuesday. During the time she was chartered by the Aliev Line her seamen were paid £7 per month. The crew from Vancouver signed off yesterday, and the captain ottered £4 10s to a number of. men to join the ship fox* the trip to Manila. None, however, would sign on unless promised £7 per month to Manila, and until tlieir return to New Zealand. The captain is again negotiating to-day with some of the unemployed to join the vessel.
