ANNUAL RETURNS. The secretary (Mr. E. G. Matthews), has prepared the following statistical returns in connection with the Gisborne Hospital for the year ending March 31, 1909: Medical superintendent. \\. Carlile Wilson, M.D., B.eh.. J±~ Stewart (Miss Godfrey lias since been appointed vice Miss Stewart, resigned.) number of registered nurses, 4; pro- \ bationers, 9. Domestic staff.—Cook 1, housemaid T 1, wardsmaid 1, wardsman 1, laundresses 2, porter and gardener 1. Number of beds available for males 29, for females 16, isolation and infectious 8; total, 53. Average number of patients per diem 33.4. Number of patients (the figures in parentheses are the previous year’s) on 31st March, 1908, 41 : admitted during the year, 374; total under treatment. 415 (508); discharged during year, 344 : died, 24; remaining on 31st March. 1909, 47; sex, males 309. females 106. Collective days’ stay. 12,189 (12,361). Individual average days’ stay, 29 1-3 (24 1-3); average daily cost per head, 6s o|d (os d|d); average daily payment per head, Is Old; average daily, cost per head after deducting patients’ fees, os; weekly fee charged for maintenance, £1 Bs. Percentage of cost of administration of maintenance expenditure, 3f per cent. Localities, broadly, from which patients came.—County of Cook 174, Borough of Gisborne 241. Nationalities of patients.—New Zealand 201, Australian 48, British 150. European 9, Asiatic 2, Canadian 3, and American 2.
