NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW

OPENED AT PALMERSTON. [Per Press Association.! PALMERSTON, June 22. The National Dairy Show opened today with fine weather and a large attendance of the dairying community. The entries this year are considerably in advance of previous years, with- the sole exception of fat stock, which shows a falling off numerically. , The show was officially opened by the Hon. T. Mackenzie. Minister for Agriculture, who congratulated the Association on the great strides made, and said he learnt from Mr. Cuddy, Dairy Commissioner, that the dairying classes were of high order and quality, and that he was thoroughly satisfied with. There is a large display of machinery, and the great majority of the exhibits arc shown in motion. The greatest number of milking machine exhibits ever brought together in the Dominion are shown, and the machinery exhibits include all the latest improvements in dairy machinery. , The champion class lor apples, six varieties, open to the wholo Dominion, drew twenty entries. J- Gushing (Clive) was placed first, F.W. Mayo (Palmerston) second, Stoke Fruit-grow-ers’ Association (Nelson), thud. Ihe displav in this class was absolutely the finest'lot of apples over got togetliei in the Dominion. . ~ The Minister of Agriculture was particularly impressed with the quality or the apples, and said that the collection was the finest he had over seen any- " Moot- crops are also a magnificent display.
