VIEWS OF THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 22. The Hon. G. Fowlds, interviewed by a “Daily Times” reporter: to-night, answered the objections of the Otago and Auckland Education Boards to the Departmental grant for free leading books. The Minister traversed the contentions of both Boards, and concluded bv saying, “Our contention is thisf that 'the use of free read.ngJiooks of a non-contmuous clmractei ivuMm the host interests ot good leadUL,. Further, that the. grant is adequate to supply 01 sufficient and suitable reading matter in Standards 1 and 2, and that it lias been tried under .business conditions by a good many of the Boards, with the result that the intention ot the Department has been justified b> their experience.”
