A meeting of the Vv aiapu .Rugby sub-TJnion was held in the hotel- oi Saturday, 19th, to inquire into the dis turbance at the football match at Tu paroa between the Mangatuna andTuparoa teams, when the referee had occa sion to order a player olf the field whc refused to go and others interfered win were reported by the referee to tlu Union, and were dealt with accordingly. Reedy and Kershaw were disqualified for five years and Oady for three years. It is pleasing to note that the Union took a strong stand in the case as it will be a lesson to others, and ii such disgraceful acts were allowed tc go unchecked, football would soon be i thing of the past on the Coast. A public meeting was held in the schoolroom,, convened by Mr. J. Gillies, for the purpose of forming a tenuis club. Mr. "VV. E. Holder occupiec the chair. The meeting was well at tended, by both ladies and gentlemen, and it was unanimously decided t-o fora a club. The following were elected ofii cials: President, Dr. Weeks; hon. sec. J. Gillies; hon. treas., H. Walker; com mittee, Messrs Holder, lvirby, Murphy Smith, Colebrook, Wintle, Frostick Reid; ladies’ committee, Mesdamei Cross, Smith, Holder, Murphy, Misse: Reid, Bristow, Cross, and Gallagher. Dr. Weeks and Messrs Gillies and Walker were appointed to report on sites suitable to the committee on June 30th. An early starl has been made so that tho ground rnay be got in order for play in th© early spring, and with such a strong commit tee the club should bo quite a success. While out on a shooting expeditior at Huanui, Air. S. Morgan had the mis fortune to break his leg when sudden !y getting off Ills horse in a bouldei creek. Dr. Weeks went out to set tin fracture. Mm Morgan will be brought in to the township in a few days.
