VESSELS IN PORT, Folotag, barqnentme, Tho Shaw, Savill aud Albion Co.’s Aotea'completed her loading early yesterday morning, and sailed for Wellington. She took the following shipments from’ this port: —By Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Co.: 12,128 carcases of mutton and lamb, 3590 quarters beef, 128 sides veal, 100 bags sheep tongues, 115 casks tallow, 36 casks pelts, 23 bales wool; by Dalgety and Co.: 43 bales wool; by Murray, Roberts and Co.: 15 bales wool. Tho Huddart-Parker Co.’s Victoria arrives from south early to-morrow morning, and sails later for Auckland and Sydney. Tho U.S.S. Co.’s Monowai returns from Auck’and on Sunday afternoon, leaving during the evening for south. The .Canterbury Shipping Co.’s Ripple is expected here to-day from south with a cargo of produce. Tho auxiliary schooner Kaeo is expected early from Auckland, via Coast ports. . . , The U.S.S. Co.’s Maitai, which arrived at Dunedin yesterday, and was to have left there again to-day will, •owing to the slackness of the East Coast trade, bo replaced by the s.s. Tarawera, tho Maitai being laid up. The New Zealand Shipping Co.’s Chari arrived from Napier yesterday morning to load a quantity of wool and tallow. She returned to Napier last night. ■ The Tyser Co.’s Star of Scotland was due in Napier on Tuesday from Wellington, and is expected to sail from that port on Saturday for Gisborne. The U.S.S. Co.’s Wariaka arrived from. Newcastle, via Auckland, last night. After discharging her cargo of coal for this port, she sails for Napier. The U.S.S. Co.’s Flora is expected to arrive from south to-morrow with 200 tons of Westport coal for this port. On -discharge, she leaves for Coast bays and Auckland. Tho U.S.'S.'Co.’s Monowai, once more in the East Coast service, is under the command of Captain Bernoeb, late of the Waikare, who has the following •officers with him :—Mr. R. G. Walton, chief; Mr. E. D. lies, second; Mr. F. H. Edge, third; Mr. J. F. Scott, fourth; Mr. Ormiston, chief engineer; Mr. McDonald, second engineer; Mr. Hall, third engineer; Mr. Mitchelson, chief steward. * It was stated authoritatively to a New Zealand “Times” reporter recently that no vessels leaving Australia in July for London or Liverpool have •space for transhipments of grain from New Zealand. There is enough tonnage, however, to handle all grain from New Zealand to the United Kingdom. Some interesting features of the White Star Line’s new Atlantic liner L.aurentic are supplied by Messrs Levin and Co., tho Wellington agents. The Laurentic has been placed in the Liv-fcrpool-.Quebec-Montreal trade, a new departure for the White Star people, and' she is tho largest steamer in the Canadian trade. The Laurentic (which is fitted with a combination of reciprocating engines and a low-pressure turbine, similar to the New Zealand Shipping Co.’s steamer Otaki) is the first Atlantic liner so equipped. The Laurentic was launched on ‘September 16th last, at Belfast. She is a single-fun-nelled, two-masted steamer of some 14,900 tons, 565 ft in length, with a beam of 67ft 4in, and in addition to 260 first-class passengers, 430 secondclass, and 1000 third-class, will carry a large quantity of cargo.
