SYDNEY SHOOTING CASE.
PERPETRATOR FOUND GUILTY. (SENTENCE OF DEATH RECORDED United Press Assocd-iTon- —Copyright (Received June 25, 12.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 24. Crooks was found guilty in connection with the North Sydney shooting affray on April 1, with a recommendation to mercy. Sentence of death was recorded. [Former cable messages stated that Mr. Russel Sinclair, a resident of North Sydney, disturbed an intruder in. his house. A desperate struggle ensued. The robber fired twice, and seriously wounded Sinclair in the groin. The robber was arrested, after an exciting ebase, during which he fired several shots at his pursuers. Ho inflicted 'nasty injuries on a constable’s head, battering it with the butt of a revol- • vor. Sinclair’s assailant was recognised by finger prints as John Frederick Crook, or Croke, . a recent arrival from New Zealand. There are several convictions against him. Constable Gates, who showed such pluck, and was- so badly handled when arresting the prisoner, is also a Now Zoalaiider. The Constah’e received immediate promotion , as a reward for bravery.j * '
