STATE COAL.
BOYCOTTED BY COAL MINE OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, June 24. Some friction has occurred locally in connection with, the contract for the delivery of Stato coal. Last year and this year Mr. Purdie, coal merchant and carter, was the successful tenderer. At six o’clock last night Mr. Purdie received notice from the President or the Coal Merchants’ Association that if he accepted a tender for the delivery of State coal ho would lose his position as member of the Association. It appears that the Coal Mine Owners Association recently, intimated to the Merchants’ Association that membeis of the latter body supplied by the former should not deal in State coal, and to this the Merchants’ Association eySrtSfy agreed. Mr. l’urd * stated Ire was determined to accept the contiact.
