(Special to “Times.”) GREYMOUTH, Juno 24. The New Alpine mine manager reports for the week ending 22nd inst. as follows:—No. 14 level: We have ben short of compressed air for rockdrilling, nearly all avaiiabe air being required for "pumping, consequently little driving was done. A crosscut was put in the foot wall side of the drive at the north face, and revealed lift of reef, and I am not certain if we have the foot wall yet. Another round will be taken out to-morrow, when samples will be taken. One round of holes was fired in the south face, and there are 2ft of well mineralised reef going south. Stoping was continued in No.’s 2,3, 4, and 7 north, and No. 6 going south. In all the faces the reef remains the same in width. We have been logging up and filling in stopes south of the crosscut during the past two days, and one more day should leave this end in good working order. Two hundred and fourteen tons were paddocked for the week, making a total of 582 tons. DEEP LEVEL DEVELOPMENT AT THE THAMES. (Per Press Association.) THAMES, June 24. An important conference took place to-day regarding deep level development, between Mr. Frank Reed, Government mining engineer, the local inspectors of mines, and representatives and mine managers of the companies interested, the May Queen, Saxon, Victoria, and Waiotahi. It is stated that they have agreed to a scheme ot development, to crosscut in a direct line from the Queen of Beauty shaft tq the Caledonian shaft. The Kuranui, Caledonian, and Home Companies would- advise in a few days as to their decision. The cost would be about £IB,OOO ; the five companies paying £2OOO each, and the Government providing £BOOO. The scheme is of great importance to the district. It is believed that, at one thousand ieet, to which the main shaft has now been ■sunk, another rich goldfield will be opened up. The result of the conference has given satisfaction, as now nothing remains in the way of deep level development.
