MILITARY BALL.
EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES
The East Coast Mounted- Rifles’ eighth annual military bail, which was held in the Garrison Hall last night, was an unqualified success, and went to show how popular the function has become among both town and country residents, for there were fully 300 couples present, among the guests being His Worship the Mayor and the Mayoress (Mr and Mrs W. D. Ly.snar), Lieut.Colonel Winter, Major McCredie, Sur-geon-Captain Scott, Captains Beere. C. Hellier Evans and Zachanah, and Lieutenant Coleman. The noor was in excellent order, the decoration, carried out with bunting and evergreens, blended meet harmoniously: and _as the dainty dresses worn by the ladies and the gay uniforms worn by the officers _ and members of the various volunteer corps flitted to anti fro, the effect was brilliant. The frocks worn by the ladies were we.l varied in both color and design, subdued tones of color and white predominating. A striking frock was one of pink satin Chamalusc, made in the "Directoire” style, with corsage of spangled net. This handsome toilette was relieved by gold shoes and gold bands in the hair. Black velvet seemed to find favor, and many dainty confections were relieved with silver sequins, wliile pale color shades were relieved with lace, pearls, and sequins. The Mayoress was attired in pale pink, trimmed with large and miniature pearls, with a necklet or pearls. Floral muslin over silk, and light shades in taffeta were also to be seen, many or the gowns being most artistically designed. The programme was a long one witn many extras, the music for the eighteen . dances on the card being provided by the City Band under Conductor Lawrence, and that for the extras by Messrs Vita. Bros.’ orchestra. The comfort-of the dancers was well catered for; there were ample dressing rooms, and a pleasant absence of any need to crush at the cloak room door. The supper menu was elaborate, Mr. Jalnes Erskine being the caterer, while the troopers of the squadron acted as wait ers, so that all needs should be promptly attended to. For those who cared to sit out any of the dances there were furnished comers and card roomswhile light refreshments were obtainable at all times. The success of the. bail reflects great credit upon. the officer commanding the squadron, Laptain C. Hellier Evans, who with Sur-geon-Captain Scott, Lieuts. C. J. Hamilton. J. B. Roy liter ana G. Witters. Sergt. -Major Spragg, Sergts. Cole, Oates Barlow, Hughes. McCullo lgli. and AYauchop, Corporals Coleman, Cave, Beatson, Walker, and MacDonald, Lance-Corporals Cameron and Law r as his committee, worked hand to make the East Coast Mounted Rifles Mall ol 1909 the most successful yet held m connection with the squadron. «,
