HOTELS IN AUCKLAND DISTRICT
TWENTY-EIGHT TO BE CLOSED. (Per Press Association.)-..,,, s' AUCKLAND, June 25. . Current hotel licenses will expire on Wednesday next, and on that date the various hotels which have failed to secure renewals of licenses as a result of the last local option poll, will close their bars. The number of hotels in. the Auckland district that will be closed will be 28, of which 14 are in Ohinemuri and four in Eden, in both of which districts no-license was carried. Tho closing .of the remaining ten hotels has been brought about by reduction. With the view of lightening the. blow that is to fall on the licensees of the five hotels that arc to be closed in the city, tho Auckland Licensed Victuallers’ Association has decided to make a canvas among members with the view of collecting £I.OOO, to bo equally divif ded amongst the hotelkeepers affected. * : !f> to th© present about £7OO has been 1 subscribed for the purpose.
