Inspector Dwver, officer in charge of the Hawke’s Bay police district, which includes Poverty Bay, arrived from Napier on Saturday, and left on his return yesterday evening. Part- of his business here was the inspection of chartered clubs, he being inspector oi clubs for the district.

Tn order to r>resent their plays in a fitting manner, the Allan Hamilton Company are sending over 100 tons of scenery and properties to Gisborne, part of which came to hand by Saturday’s steamer in charge of .a staff of mechanists, who arc now employed at His Majesty’s Theatre preparing for the opening nroduction.

It is intended to endeavor to form a troop of the East Coast Mounted Rifles at Batutahi, where, hitherto, the corps has not received much support. There are,' however, many young men in the district whom Captain- Mellier Evans and his officers would be glad to welcome as members of the squadron.
