ALLAN HAMILTON'S COMPANY

Air. Allan Hamilton's recently organised dramatic company will make its first appearance in Gisborne on AVednesday night. The initial production will he “Iu the Ranks,” which was written by George. 11. Sims and Henry Pettit. The play is by no means a novelty in New Zealand, as it was produced here in 1888 by a company headed by Air. George Rigno’.d; but it is one ok those evergreen dramatic constructions which although it may play for several weeks, in the first .instance, retains such a hold upon the memories of theatre goers that it may be produced time and again, lor its outstanding .features of clean,, but intensely interesting melodramatic work seem nove’, of at all events are; more and more comprehensible every time it is presented. This piece will be followed by the sensational drama entitled “Queen of the Night,” wiicH . fairly bristles with startling Special attention has been paid to-the mounting, and in noticing the production of “In the Ranks,” the “New Zealand Times” says: “The feature of the production, however, was the econ-er-y, and, indeed, in the general mounting of the piece, nothing finer has been, -placed upon any AA’elington stage than the scenic pictures of “Diugley Wood," ‘The Village Church,’ and 'The \rsilage’ ; these were paintings worthy of the greatest of scenic .artists. Air. H. AVluute, whom we have to thaiik for these splendid ■ ensePihlcts, is to be congratulated. ' For the third production here it has been decided to play “The Alessa'go from Alars.” The company that Air.
