TOWN COMPETITION; ' CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES. Y.M.C.A (21) v. KAITI-CITY (10). ' The championship games were continued on Saturday on the Domain in fine, weather. There was a fairly good attendance of spectators and the' ground was in excellent condition for fast games. City kicked off .and Y-M.C.A. immediately pressed, Campbell and Miller both being nearly over in the first minute. but good tackling by, Hepburn saved the situation. Y.M.C.A. were awarded a penalty, howeVer, a few minutes after, the start, and Miller kicked . a neat goal. Y.M.C.A. had the best -of matters for a time, but the City forwards.came with a rush, only to be sent back by Ivokiri. City aided by a : penalty, pressed hard, but Kaipara intercepted a. pass, and the., ball was quickly transferred to the other end, where Hepburn again saved well. Delaney broke well away on lm own and had a -good dribbling run up the field, but both ho, and -Hansen overran the ball when unopposed and a scrum was formed on the line. - The ball went over the line and Delaney fell on it, equalising the scores. Tocker kicked a nice goal. Even play, followed in midfield and the Y.M.C.A. backs indulged in some nice passing. Campbell picked np in midfield and beating several men ran clean through and scored a nice try between the posts. Miller converted eaisily. Flatman resumed, but -Tocker w.as unable to, and the City forwards from the kick off forced their way along to the Y.M.C.A. line, where, after some close work, Nicolas scored a well-deserved try. which,, Swain converted with a fine kick. Half time was called almost immediately after the kick off, with Y.M.C.A. loading >by three points. After the- interval a long series of line-outs took place at midfield, andi each -nide afterwards took turns in attacking, and Hay found (ouch right on City’s line'With a good kick. A scrum was formed on the line and a smart mark by Campbell saved the situation at least temporarily. City kept up the pressure,, and from a penalty - Swain bad an unsuccessful .but good attempt 'at goal. Play continued in Y.M.C.A. territory, and Swain, from another penalty, failed to add to the score: .M.0.A.. forcing. City were now.haring all the best of the play and kept Y.M.C.A, very busy in defending. Campbell and Russell headed a rush of f.M.C.A. to the 25, cheered bv their supporters. Y’M.C.A. fuelled un the field, Kaipara, Miller, and Makaore being prominent: City forced, and from play in midfield a kick of Neill’s was well followed un by Pine, who beat. Hepburn for possession and scored. Miller again kicked a good goal. Play-be-came very fast, the Y.M.C.A/'hackrs passing well. An almost certain score was lost by Miller sending a faulty pass to Neill after a run, and an .interchange of kicks left play in City ! territory. After narrow escapes from al further score Cite forced, but Y.M.C.A. kept up their attack istrongly. City took "a turn at pressing, but t.M.C.A. defended well, and were aided by. several penalties. United kicked off with the. sun in their eyes and attacked strongly.
