A VISIT FROM A CHAMPION. Mr Joseph W. Read, the champion billiard plhver of Now Zealand, arrived in Gisborne* on Saturday morning, and will play an exhibition game, fit the Oosmopolitai) Club at 7.30 thus c\onin«v * Mr. Read is a Bradford man, anVl lias been about a year in the Dominion. He is at present making a tour through New Zealand, prior to li:s departure for Australia, and the Old Country. On June 2iiu. at the \ letona Billiard,Parlor, in Wellington, he made successive breaks, on a standard Aleock table of 120 and 486; 255 of the latter being made off the red ball.. Ibis is “ie record': or oak for New Zealand. Read has also a break of 352 standing against bis. name. He lias met and defeated /nearly all the best playeis lit New Zealand, and defeated the Grays, both father and ■ son, when tlie latter visited the Dominion. Mr. Read Jia.s issued, a standing challenge to any plover in New Zealand for £IOO a-side, or any part of that amount. There should be. a large attendance this evening to witness'the plav of this renowned bilTiardist.
