GISBORNE FIRE BOARD
ORDINARY MEETING. A meeting of the Gisborne I ( ire Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present' Messrs John Townley (chairman), J. Coleman, G. L.' Evans, \V. Petti©, and W. D. Lysnar. The secretary of the) Duuedm. biro Board wrote asking for the co-opera-tion of the Board in an attempt! to have an inquiry held in connection with every fire, also asking the charge made by the Board for attending at fires on property and shipping.—lt .was decided to defer consideration of the first portion of the letter, and to inform the Board that no charge is mado by the. Gisborne Board for attending fires. The Christchurch Fire Board wrote supplying information regarding motor chemical • fire engines .-^Received. The Superintendent pf Electric Lines notified the Board of the discontinuance of free telephones. —It was decided to retain the telephone at present at the Brigade Station. In the same" connection, a letter -was .read from the Christchurch Board asking for the Gisborne. Board’s co-opera-tion in an endeavor to have frees telephones for fire brigades continued. — It was resolved to reply, stating that the Board would be glad to join in any such movement. A report laid on the table showed that there had been 17 fires in the borough during tho year. The .balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £26 Is 7d on the year’s working, and a requisition for £sso'Was put forward for working'expenses fpr the coming year. .
