GUARDED BY DETECTIVE CASSELS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 1. The “Herald” states that it is reported that the object of Detective Cassel’s visit to England in company with. Sir Joseph Ward is to shadow the Prime Minister against possible attack by an ex-immigrant who, it is alleged, was induced to come to New Zealand two or three years ago by reading some of the rose-colored literature on New Zealand, which had been publishd at Home. He was unsuccessful, and after some time m Wellington, worked his way Home as a stoker, only to find that his wife had died of starvation during his absent; hence his threatening letters to oir Joseph Ward, whom he seems to have blame 1 , for his misfortunes. WELLINGTON, July 1. With reference to the report Horn Auckland of threats against the 1 remier the “Dominion” says that tor some time past every vessel from Home has been carefully watched, presumably to- give warning to Sir Joseph Ward it the person who had been sending threatening letters should return. It is in a position to state definitely that the particular individual did have a grievance of the nature stated in the telegram, real or imaginary, and had expressed himse’f violently -about it. A month or two back he was m England.
