CLAIM AGAINST A DOCTOR
' VERDICT FOR DEFENDANT
(Per Press Association.) NAPIER, July 2. In the Supreme Court to-day, before 'Mr. Justice Chapman and a special 'jury of twelve, the hearing was concluded of the case, in which William 'Henry Lean, of Hastings, commission agent, sued Dr. Thomas McKibbin, of ’that town, for £IOOO damages, for alleged negligence in the treatment of plaintiff’s wife, who had died from 'puerperal septicaemia, after confinement. The witnesses included a number of 'medical men. The defendant said he •had had 93 confinement cases in the year 1908, and only one death, which was the subject of the present action. Three other doctors, called for the defence, said that the defendant’s treatment of the case was correct.
The jury, after 15 minutes’ retirement, returned a verdict for the defendant. His Honor entered up judgment for the defendant accordingly, with costs.
