POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Poverty Bay Turf Club was held m ; the Club’s" rooms, Masonic Hotel, yesterday afternoon. ■ . . j The President (Mr. occupied ; the chair and there was a large attendance of members. The following report was read and adopted:— . , “Gentlemen,—ln again presenting to you the annual report and balancesheet for the past year, vour committee have pleasure in congratulating tne club on its success, both from a financial and a racing point of view. The stakes paid during the past season -amounted to £2220. being an increase of £290 on the previous season. Owing to the increased attendance your committee considered it advisable to build an outside stand, and this, with other necessary improvements were carried out at a cost or ! about £BOO. Notwithstanding this exi penditure, it will be seen from the balance-sheet that the dub has attained j a successful financial result. The sum of £243 16s 2d has been ' written off improvement account, and £l6 7s off furniture and Diant account. After making these deductions the net profit for the year amounts to £943 8s 2d. The overdraft now stands at £1914 12s lid. ... . ... The following gentlemen retire_ by rotation but are eligible for re-election: Messrs. R. Sherratt, J. Maynard, and J. M. Gouldsmith. ' The thanks of the club are due to the following gentlemen: Mr. F. Parker (auditor), Mr. C. 0. Hansen (actingauditor), -and to Mr. L. T. Symes (non. treasurer) and to Mr. M. Do Costa (clerk of scales).” (Signed) J. W. Nolan. President. Mr. Nolan congratulated the club on the success of the year.' The racing had been good and over £3OO had been written off for wear and tear; otherwise the year’s prifits would have been over £I2OO. A new outside stand, at a cost of £BOO bad been built, and other improvements carried out. There was no pressing need for further improvements, and the club would soon bo without a bank overdraft. The membership roll could bo increased so as to place the club on a more substantial basis. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, x»xr. J. W. Nolan (re-elected), Vice-Presi-dent, Mr John Olark (re-elected); committee (three vacancies) Messrs. R. Sherratt, J. Maynard, and J. M. Gouldsmith (re-elected). . ... Mr. D. Barry said he thought the committee might consider the question of • racing two-year olds, and the introducing of a Ladies’ Bracelet handicap in the October meeting programme. The President said it was the duty of .the -Club to encourage the breeding of horses in the district as much as possible and .the Committee would consider the suggestions. The meeting then closed. The annual meeting of the Committee was then held, Mr. J. W. Nolan presided '. ' Mr. L. T. Symes was re-elected treasurer, Mr. H. Piper, starter; the Hon. Captain Tucker, judge; and Mr. W. O. Skeet, totalisator steward. The retiring sub-committees were all re-elected.
