SPORTS POSTPONED. [Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, July 3. Owing to the heavy gale ancU«piitinuous rain, all sports arranged for this afternoon have been postponed. ASSOCIATION MEETING. WELLINGTON, July 3. At a meeting of the council of tlie New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. last night an application by O. G. Evans (Dunedin) for reinstatement was referred to the Reinstatement Committee for a report to be. submitted to the Australasian Union. The team selected recently to represent The Dominion at;the Brisbane; ’championships was approved. A sub-committee appointed by. the late council at Christchurch recommended that a receipt be given to Messrs Hoare and Grierson for the effects, but in reference to certain items of expenditure; such as travelling expenses and honorarium, the council as trustee for the Association, could not relinquish the right 1 to take, such action as; might be decided upon by the affiliated centres. The committee expressed the ; opinion, however, that in view of-all l the circumstances no good would be done by further pursuing the matter. The. report was adfepted. AN ADDITION TO THE CHAMPION TEAM. DUNEDIN, July 3. Athletic bodies in Dunedin have decided to send McKnight with the. New Zealand team to (Brisbane to compete in the' three-mile ohampionship and Marathon race, it being felt that on recent performances he would make, a valuable addition to the team.
THE TURF, GISBORNE RACING CLUB. The Park racecourse at To Hapara is .looking in the best of condition after the; recent rain j and as this -is on© of the best winter racecourses in the Dominion, given a few days fine weather, it should be in capital order for the steeplechase and hurdle race events to be run at the club’s winter meeting on Thursday and Friday next. Since the last race meeting further improvements have been carried out for the comfort of patrons, chief of these being a ladies’ waiting-room, beneath the . outside grandstand. The following is the result of the Grand National Hurdle Race: Fossil .... 1 Kalnuck., ... ... •••, 2 Old Nick ... ... ... 3 All the acceptors started. Rogue’s. March was in front at the first hurdle, followed by Sun, Knotter, Circulas, and Old Nick. little - later Sun tool>: charge fronv Circulas. Entering the straight the leading division consisted of Sun, Enchanted States, and Fossil together, followed by Old Chappie, Knotter, Old Nick, and Kalnuck. Opposite the _ lawn Enchanted States and Circulas fell. Knotter forced Fossil»along the riverside, showing the way to Sun, * 01, Chappie, Kalnuck, and Kulkerua ,with the rest strung out. At the four-fur-long post Kalnuck went into second place to Fossil, the next being Old Nick. They entered the straight on these terms, and a great race home ensued, Fossil winning by a short length. Old Nick was four lengths away third, and Woolloomoolloo fourth. Then came Woollara, Rogue’s March, and Sun, while Togo and Waipu were among the ruck. Time, smin 52jsec.
