Mr Suttor, New South Wales commercial agent in the East, in h;s annual report, says: “Japan.is evidently passing through a serious phase in its history. Tho exports last year were £5,410,000 less than in the preceding year. The imports were £5,820,000 less. It is the first time since 1868 that the exports have shown such a great falling off.”
