FLOODS NEAR THAMES.
TWO YOTXG MEN DROWNED. Pit ns’-' \ksopi'tionO THAMES. July 5. Heavy floods are reported in several districts near Thames. A large area was under water. The damage is much greater than was at first anticipated. The bridge at Tairua. recently completed, has been carried away, kauri logs sweeping away the foundations, and carrying the whole structure to the booms. A portion of the suspension bridge was also carried away. Reports from other districts state that all the rivers are in flood. Much damage has been caused. Loss of life, has also occurred. Henry Dayis, aged 17, and Albert Riley, aged 20, engaged in road works near Tikuhai, endeavored to return on horseback. They were swept away bv the rushing river. The bodies were found yesterday four chains from the hank of the river, covered with sand and debris. The pitiful feature is that the father of Davis waited for hours to warn the others of the danger, and left, reassured by the nonapi>earanee of them that they would not attempt the dangerous task.
