FOOTBALL.

POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION. The usual weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Poverty Bav Rugby Union was held last evening Present: Messrs H. E. Maude (chairman), J- S. Wauchop, L 0. Ingram, W. Johnston, J. A. Eaton, and G. K. Pasley. An apology for non-at-tendance was received from Mr. H.. Bright. ’ , • i • Mr. L. F. Williams -wrote stating his reason for disallowing the goal in the City-Gisborne match. His reason was that the placer had his hand on the ball when the kicker kicked it. An amended appeal was received from the City Club in the same connection, and after discussion it was resolved that the appeal be disallowed, but that the Union would he pleased to forward any appeal to the Appeal Council of the New Zealand Rugby Union, as the case was considered to be a test one; The caretaker of the Domain reported that the rooms under the grandstand had been broken into, and that the padlock had been tempered with. - It was resolved to notify the police of the damage done, and it was further decided to take steps to repair the damage done and further protect the windows. , The secretary of the Y.M.C.A. Club, asking if they played fifteen men against Kaiti-City on Saturday, and if so to supply the two that are missing from their list. The Tahiti mu Club wrote appealing against the decision of the referee in awarding a try to the Makauri team, on the ; grounds that the ball was thrown in from the wrong place just prior to the score being obtained.—-It was decided to refer the letter to the referee and ask for a report. The Secretary of the New- Zealand Rugby Union wrote _ sanctioning (he application of the Union to play for a challenge shield and gold medal. A letter was read from the Manawatu Rugby Union, stating that their team would not be able to play the Povertv Bay representatives on the date originally intended.—lt was decided to reply stating that no other date could be fixed.

The Secretary was instructed to telegraph to the Wanganui Union, asking if a match could be arranged for August 17th in lieu of the Manawatu game. An application for accident insurance on behalf of an injured member of the Gisborne dub was held over pending the receipt of a medical certificate. Accident insurance was granted to D. Burnside, of the Star Club, who was injured recently, and laid up for 16 days, and also on account of P. Hickey and J. Bowman. ' The chairman was authorised to obtain quotations from accident insurance companies regarding the insurance of’ the representatives while on tour.. Two additional, players were passed for the Kaiti-City Club, and an application for a transfer was held over. On the motion of Mr. Ingram, seconded by Mr. Wauchop, it was decided that the Thursday matches this week be postponed on account of the races. Mr. Johnston brought up the question of each of the third-grade teams playing Saturday. Permission was granted to the Makauri juniors to arrange a match with town players, to he played at Makauri next Saturday. J . Mr. E. L. Maude moved that the match City v. Alhambra, played on July Ist, and won by the former club, be 'awarded to Alhambra, on the grounds that the City Club had s not supplied a list of their players prior to the match.
