Co.’s Monowai arrived ' from south early yesterday morning, and sailed later for Auckland. Sho bad a large number of passengers for this port, and a heavy ground swell hindered the work of transhipment to "tender. The U.S.S. Co.’s Talune arrived from Auckland late yesterday afternoon, after a rough passage. She sailed again later for Napier and south. The U.S.S'. Co.’s Flora from Coast ha vs and Auckland arrived here yesterday afternoon. After discharging her cargo, sho was expected to sail earn this morning for Napier, Wellington, ■and probably Picton. The 1 lor a was unable t-o discharge gll her cargo for the Coast owing to the heavy weather. The U.S.S. Co.’s Squall was still in vort last night, weather bound. Sho 4,-ill probably sail early this morning for Auckland, with her shipment of & The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s steamer Connthio sailed from Plymouth last week for AA ellmgton and Lyttelton, via Capetown and Hobart. Tiie vessel is one day behind her schedule time, the few hours’ delay having l>robablv been occasioned by tne steamer being docked for survey, as a result of her grounding near Rio de Janeiro on her recent voyage Homeward. The Corinthic should experience jin difficulty in keeping up her schedule running. 'Sho is due at Capetown on J;i!y 17th. at Hobart on August oth, and at AYellington about August 10th. Tenders have been invited by the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company at Home for the construction of a twinscrew cargo steamer, to take the place of the Rangatira, which was recently sold. The new vessel, which will resemble the Taiiiui somewhat, will not, however, have so /much passenger accommodation as the ainui, but have more space for cargo. The Ennui's principal dimensions. are: Length T 477 ft Bin; depth, 61ft lin: bea'fn, 31ft; tonnage, Phs7 gross, 6288 not. She was built last year by Messrs AAorkman, Clark and Co., Belfast. and is now on her second voyage Homeward. The Federal-Houkler-Slure steamer , Fifeshire, which left Lyttelton for A von nimi th on the ‘2otn March, and arrived at the latter port bn the. 18th Mav, reported having experienced terrific weather in the Southern Pacific. From the 30th March the liner met a succession of storms, and on one occasion lay helpless in the trough of the &en for over twelve hours. Heavy seas broke aboard carrying away the afterdeckhouses and other deck fittings and damaging the steering gear. At the tine of writing the cargo was believed to have been damaged by sea water also.
