GISBORNE CHESS CLUB.

MATCH WITH HAMILTON ARRANGED. A telegraphic chess match has been arranged between the , Gisborne and Hamilton Chess Clubs, and is to take place on Saturday evening, when play will begin at half-past 7 o’clock. The number of hoards at which the match is to he played has not yet been settled. The Gisborne Club offered to pla,y at eight boards, but the reply of the Hamilton Club has not yet been received. The representatives of Gisborne will probably be Messrs Claud Sainsbury, W. F. Crawford, J. W. Witty, H. A. King, J. H. Bull, C. Blackburn, F. J. Rowley, J. C. E. Kissling, with Mr. G. K. Sainsbury as emergency. By the courtesy of the Government arrangements are to be made for the Gisborne players to conduct their games in the telegraph office. It is anticipated that the match will bo a very interesting one, for the Hamilton Chess Club can furnish .a strong “team.”

A telegraphic match between Gisborne and Wairoa, a “return” for that held last year, is to be played during the present season, as is also a match between tho Gisborne Club and the Y.M.C.A. . ■■■ Mr. Claud Sainsbury, has kindly offered a handsome trophy, a silver cup. to-be competed for by the members of the club in a tournament on the “American system,” with a sealed handicap, not divulged till after the conclusion of the play. Entries for this competition are now being received. Mr. W. F. Crawford, President of the Gisborne, Chess Club, .has been elected a Vice-President of the New Zealand Chess Association.
