POUAWA
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Another most successful social and dance was held at Mr. McDonnell’s on Friday evening last, when, advantage of the brilliant moonlight, about ISO dancers put in an appearance, and ,tlioroaglily enjoyed themselves. Dancing was kept up with great spirit until nearly 5 a.m. on Saturday”. As an instance of tho popularity of those country socials, it may 7 be stated that a large proportion of visitors travel long distances, and not a few put in an appearance from the town itself. The Lloyd Brothers held an evening’s ■entertainment in the Pakarae Hall last Monday evening. The programme included kinematograph displays and sleight-of-hand tricks, interspersed with music, both instrumental and vocal. The performers were greeted with a small hut appreciative audience, which undoubtedly would have been much larger but for the inclemency of the weather. However; those who had the hardihood to face the elements pronounced .the entertainment to be firstclass value for their money. The weather was splendid up till a week ago, hut it is to be hoped we will get rain all this mouth, as lambing is expected to start on August Ist, or probably a (lay or two before. A few week’s mild weather wilUbe earnestly hoped for by stock-owners, generally.
