Tliirtv volunteers vainly sought for the body of the man drowned in the j'ukituki river on the nrovious Sunday, traversing eighteen miles of the river from the ford to the sea. There is every reason to believe that the victim is Neil Duncan, who has not been heard of since the fatality was reported. FATAL FALL FROM A TRAP. WANGANUI, July 12. Mark Shoeing a well-known resident, died in the hospital yesterday as the result of being thrown out of a trap on Wednesday. His neck was broken bv the fall, which occurred very simply. ' DROWNED IN A DITCH. WELLINGTON, July 12. Susan Grey, formerly of Manga woka, who was an inmate of the Porirua mental asylum, was found drowned in a creek at Porirua last night. Samuel Elsmore, a widower, aged 54, of Grovetown, Blenheim, was found smothered in a ditch near his house yesterday. BLENHmM, July 12. In the ease of Samuel Elsmore, found dead yesterday morning in a ditch not far from his house, it is supposed that lie missed the footbridge over which he was accustomed to cross, and that lie died from shock, as he had been troubled lately with the heart. There was very little water in the ditch. Deceased leaves a widow and family. SUDDEN DEATH. CHRISTCHURCH, July 12.' A man named Robert lueAlister died at his residence' at 3 o'clock on Saturday morning. He had not been attended by a doctor, and he was dead before one could be summoned. BOY ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. The constable at ..icthven has tcle--raplied that a boy named Alfred Healey. residing at Sturdy, accidentally shot himself on Friday. ASHBURTON, July 12. At an inquest concerning the death of Alfred Healey, the victim of the min accident at Stavely, a verdict was returned that deceased accidentally shot himself with a breech-loading gun, no blame being attachable to anyone. DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. OAMARU, July 12. John William Dyer, an old resident of Otago, expired suddenly this morning. apparently from heart failure. FATAL BLOOD POISONING. DUNEDIN, July 12. A man named James Sharkie, a wharf laborer, aged 44 Yeaie, died in the hospital yesterday morning, as the result of blood poisoning. _ Deceased was working coal on the Warriinoo on th© 2nd inst., when he sustained an abrasion on the back of the hand, Howorked for four dr '. and then consulted n doctor, who ordered his removal lto the hospital, whore his arm was amputated, but without avail.
