OBITUARY.
MR. W. P. JAMES, S.M. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 12. Mr. W. P. James, S.M., at,Masterton, who had been ill for some weeks, died there early yesterday morning, aged 56 years. Deceased was for many years clerk of the Court in. Wellington and in Dunedin. In April, 1900, heAvas appointed Magistrate at Masterton. The burial Avill take place in Wellington on Tuesday. MASTERTON, July 12. Mr. W. P. James, Magistrate, died at his residence, “Lansdowne,” at one o’clock yesterday morning. The deceased had been ill for some time. Mr. Graham relieved him of his duties. Mr. James (who died from heart, disease) was 56 years of age, and had been Magistrate. in Masterton for about six years, having previously been clerk of the Court at Wellington. In his younger days Mr. James was a prominent athlete, and well known as a representative Rugby footballer, having represented Wellington on many occasions. He leaves a wife and two sons. A meeting of Justices of the Peace and solicitors practising at Masterton passed a unanimous vote of appreciation of the late Mr. W. P. James’ integrity as a magistrate, and his uprightness as a private citizen, and deep sympathy with the widow and family. The funeral takas place, at "Wellington. Solicitors will act as pall-bearers from deceased’s house to the railway station to-morrow.
