The weather was dull and tho wicket soft, but fair. Noble won the toss and took the field. Gloucester opened quiet-ly.-Salter was caught after steady, ml ay for 55 minutes. One for 49. Board indulged freely in on-driving. When he had reached 18 Cotter missed an easy chance at mid-off off Noble. Both Langdon and Board showed careful play up to lunch, when the score totalled 91 for the loss of one wicket. On resuming the century appeared for 125 .minutes’ play. Fourteen runs later Board was dismissed after an easy catch to Macalister &t third man. Two for 114. Sewell made four, when Carkeek snapped him at the wickets. Three for 118. The next two wickets fell rapidly, Rattenbury playing forward to Hopkins, and Merrick being clean bowled by Armstrong, neither batsmen scoring. Langdon scored steadily by sound 'cricket. Brown who was "brilliantly caught by Noble, knocked up_his total in 35 minutes by hard driving. His score included five fourers. Six for 182 The Australians have lost no wickets for 56—Bardsley 18, Macalister 37. Stumps were then drawn. (Received July 13, 5.55 p.m.) Langdon iplayed faultless cricket, and was at the wickets 160 minutes. His score included 5 fourers—7 for 186. The ninth wicket fell at 194, and the second century was recorded in 175 minutes. Parker, who was run out, gave a free- exhibition, and scored quickly. , The Australians batted for 40 minutes before stumps were drawn. McAlister did some fine cutting. DTP GRACE ON THE AUSTRALIANS In a nrivate letter Dr. TV. G. Grace, the famous cricketer, comments on the present Australian team. Re says: •'‘Tkev are the weakest team on the bowling side that has ever come. Although they have struck a bad patch, they will make a. lot of runs if the weather holds up, but I shall be very much surprised if they beat England without a lot of luck.” FIXTURES.
