In recognition of the heavy work imposed on the chairman during the present rush of business, the Stock Exchange voted Mr. G. A. Buttle, the chairman, 200 guineas. THE THAMES DEEP LEVELS. PALMERSTON N., July 13. Holders of mining stocks here are greatly concerned over the Thames deep levels scheme, for Government voted a subsidy of £SOOO. Jbe “Standard” to-night points out that the shares of the companies interested in the scheme have risen in value during the last few weeks by some £37,000, showing [clearly that the confidence of the' .public is sufficient to enable them to raise a very much larger sum if -required, and the shares will certainly see a further rise in value directly the low levels work is commenced. It is held that the money required for the scheme could be readily obtained from shareholders, and that the companies should proceed at once with the- work.
