INDUSTRIAL INSURANCE.
1 ,;ick of employment is a disaster akin to shipwreck and lire, to a man whose power to labor is his' only asset, and certainly seems a contingency to bo as legitimately insured against as . either of the others, or accident and sickness are. Insurance of this kind will, of course, not create more employment, but it will do something to make labor more stable. This scheme, if properly li linked, will at least do much to remove the grosser feature of a maladjustment of the supply of labor to the demand. Combined with a, system of labor exchanges, and resting upon a linaneially soimd basis, it justifies the luspe that at last some machinery to he established by society will minimise the risks to which the artisan and laborer arc exposed. The German people, have given the world a lead along lines of this sort, and in following their exammo Britain will he taking a step she lias too long delayed. —Greymouth ••Star."
