Tiie Lyttelton Harbor Board’s dredge Manchester met with a mishap the other afternoon. She was engaged in dredging in the outer harbor, where there was a considerable swell, the water rising apd falling 6ft. As far as can ho judged, the vessel, lifted the lower end of the bucket ladder from the bottom or, at all events, greatly lessened the weight upon it, and then corning down again threw an enormous extra strain upon the ladder and bucket chain. The sag in the chain was sufficient to allow the links to run off the bottom tumbler, and the chain jammid, completely disabling the dredge. The tug was sent out, and towed the Manchester in to a berth, and a diver commenced investigations to discover the full extent of the damage. I’ve hunted tigers in Bengal, And lions at Zambesi fall, The elephant and hippo, too, The rhino and the kangaroo; But though I am a hunter bold, I must confess I funk a cold, So when I’m hunting. I make sure Against such risks by Woods’ Peppermint Cure. According to inquiries made by an Auckland reporter as to whether Auckland or Wellington*' was capturing the Main Trunk trad;- the.e seems to be a divergence of opinion. Apparently Auckland’s sphere of influence does not extend much below Ohakune, while the merchants in both centres regard Taihape as the central area where trade becomes split up between them. Auckland is keeping an eye on tho Oliura Valley district, which is regarded as a promising field of operations.
CONSUMPTION STILL CLAIMS ITS VICTIMS. That old enemy of the human race — consumption—still claims its victims, and in increasing numbers. A cold neglected—that is always tho start, always. It seems inconceivable that persons who know perfectly well that a neglected cold will cause the sufferer to find a consumptive's grave, persist in neglecting themselves. Don’t let a cold get a start—stop it right at the beginning with TUSSICURA—a truly marvellous throat and lung tonic. Two teaspoon fills of TUSSICURA taken at the beginning of a cold quickly clear the nasal passages, relieve the feverishness, and reduce tho membranous inflammation.
You will find consumption exceedingly difficult to cure when it has a good start: but (and note this well) you can positively cure a cold and thus prevent consumption by taking TUSSICURA
when the cold first annears. Tnssicura is sold in two sizes, 2s 6d, by all good oohmists and grocers.
