MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT
COLLISION WITH A MILK O.UIT
A peculiar accident, which was fortunately unattended with serious injury to any person, occurred in Gladstone Road last evening. Mr. J. M. Gouldsmith was driving along Gladstone Road in his motor car shortly after 6 p.m., and when just about the firebcll lie observed a milk cart being slowly driven along in tlm same direction, ahead of his ear, and containing two boys. In an endeavor to avoid a collision Mr. Gouldsmith promptly applied the emergency brake, but tho greasy state of the road rendered his action practically-ineffective, and although the brake was hard on, the car skidded for several yards and crashed into the rear of tlie milk cart. The two boys wero thrown out of the cart on to the roadway, but luckily escaped with a few bruises and a rather severe fright. The horse galloped off up Gladstone Road, but was recaptured before he bad gone far. Tho force of tlie impact was so great as to smash the tail-hoard and shaft of tho cart, while the motor car was also seriously damaged. The radiator was stove in and one of the brass acetylene lamps was crumpled up like an old glove. There were also other injuries to the car, and Mr Gouldsmith told a “Times” 'reporter that tlie damage to- his car would amount to over £SO. Both lamps on the. motor ear were burning at tho time of the accident, but the light on the milk cart was not visible from behind, and Jr. Gouldsmith did not see the vehicle ahead until apparently too late to avoid the catastrophe.
