Co.’s Talune will be taken from the East Coast trade on August Ist to take up the Hauroto’s running to the Islands. After transhipping as: usual to the Mokoia, she is to sail from Auckland on the 3rd August for Rarotonga. It has been decided that the steamer Waikare will replace the 'Talune. . _ „ The U.S.S. Co.’s Flora arrived from Westport and Napier on Saturday mor■aiing, and sailed again at 3 p.m, for Auckland and East Coast ports. Ike steamer was ready to sail at 2 p.m., (but had to wait until 3 o’clock for the Tuatea 'to negotiate the river. The U.S.S. Co.’s Tarawera arrived from Auckland a t 5.40 p.m. yesterday. 'Hie steamer was tendered by the Tuatea with outward and for inward passengers on arrival. The U.S.S. Co.’s Squall lert for Auckland at 5 o’clock on Saturday afternoon with a full loading of sheep. The steamer’s departure was delayed on account of the silted condition of the river. The U.S.S. Co.’s Wanaka left the .Bluff at 8 p.m. on Saturday for Oam--aru, Timaru, Napier, and Gisborne, and is expected to arrive in. the Bay about Friday next. The Westport Coal Co.’s Regulus Fit Westport at 9.20 p.m. on Saturday with a cargo of' coal for Gisborne. The barque Emprcza, which had been lying in the Bay since Wednesday last, was towed up the river on Saturday afternoon, and was berthed at about '5 p.in. Captain Stcnbeck hopes to leave for the Thames at the end of the week. . . , « The schooner Awanui arrived from Mercury Bay at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and was berthed at the Gisborne wham. The barquentine Pendle Hill arrived in the Bay yesterday from with a cargo* of sleepers. Captain Owens is in command, and this is the first visit of the vessel to this port. The s.s. Ripple is expected to. arrive from Napier and Wellington at 6 a.m. this morning, . . . ~ , The Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. s, steamer Mamari arrived in the Bay at about 6 a.m. yesterday morning from The ability-of the Squall and Holmdale, to negotiate the river on Friday afternoon caused a little wonde,r as the Tuatea was unable to make the passage on Thursday morning. Captain Cummings states that the steamers drew 9ft lOin and 10ft respectively. With a mean depth of 4ft 9m (an unusually low tide on Friday), and a rise of fully sft at the top of high water, the steamers only managed to get in after stirring up a good deal ot sand.
