SUPERANNUATION BOARD.
QUARTERLY MEETING. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. July 17. The quarterly meeting of the Public Service Superannuation Board was held in Wellington this week. The Minister ,of Internal Affairs (the Hon. D. Buddo) presided. The claims of several oflioers to count service prior to that certified to by the head of the department were carefully considered, and several of them were admitted. Others were refused on the grounds that they did not come, within the provisions of the \ot. A committee was set up to go through all papers to be considered at future meetings of the Beard prior to such meeting, and thus enable members to be in a position to inform the Board of all details connected with the matters coming before them. It was also decided to amend the regulations, so that Thursday should be the day fixed for the. meeting of the Board, in lieu of Tuesday, the present day. The annual report of the Board to be presented to Parliament was considered and approved. It was decided by theBoard that a declaration as to widowhood should for the future be made bywidows receiving pensions. The question of folio writers in the Deeds Registry. Office being eligible to join as contributors was considered, and it was decided to allow them the option of joining as from June 30th, 1908,- the daterequired by the Act,. A statement was read by the secretary, showing that theamount at credit of the fund on June30th, 1909, was £120,084 18s 9d,. of which £95,035 is invested on mortgage,, as required by law. The Board also approved of a considerable number of retiring allowances to officers recently retired from the service, owing to retrenchment and otherwise.
