ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FOUND DEAD IN BED. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July Uh James Macartney Mitchell, aged 52, a stonemason, was found dead at his lodging, Ingestre Street, to-day. Heai t disease is believed to have been the cause of death. Deceased was a married man. THE WELLINGTON RAILWAY FATALITY. The inquest on John Cummings, a platelayer, aged 47 years, a widower with seven children, who was killed on Saturday on the railway line between Ngahauranga and Petone, was concluded to-day. The Coroner found that death was brought about by the deceased, wlio for some reason of his own crossed the line, not being aware of the train approaching, and that lie was run into accidentally when he was in such a position that neither the driver nor the fireman could sec him. No blame whatever was attachable to them.
SUICIDE IN CHRISTCHURCH
CHRISTCHURCH, July 19. The body of a young man, subsequently identified, as that of Harold M. Stevenson, 21 years of age, was found in the Avon River near Hereford Street bridge this morning, by a City Council employee, who was clearing weeds out of the river. It appears •that Stevenson was very despondent prior to leaving his home on June 16th last. He hired a double-barrelled gun from a second-hand dealer, and was last seen alive riding along Colombo Street on the date mentioned. Subsequently a gun containing two discharged cartridges and pieces of .string_ attached to the triggers was found in the rivei. When the body was examined this morning a gun shot wound was. found in the left temple. At the inquest held to-night a verdict of death rrom a soilinflicted gunshot wound was returned.

DUNEDIN, July 19. . Jas. Gibson, aged 49, a butcher died suddenly on Saturday. He complained of feeling unwell, and remainedfin bed. He was in good spirits at 11.30 a.m., but when visited again at 1 o clock was dead. The doctor said tlie appearance indicated an epileptic fit. ' An inquest will hie held.
