MONDAY., JULY 17. (Before Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender on a charge of drunkenness was convicted and fined ss, with costs 2s, in default 24 boras’ imprisonment. ALLEGED LIGHT WEIGHT BREAD. James Erskine, defended by Mr. Kirk, was charged with hawing sold bread under the standard weight. Mr. Kirk objected to the summons which stated that the offence was com--, mitted on July 10th, 1909, and the Pure Goods and Drugs Act stated that the case must -not be heard within 14 days of the time when the offence was alleged to have been committed. " The specified time had not elapsed and the information must be dismissed. The Bench said the law was mandatory, and the summons would be dismissed. The question was could a fresh summons be issued,, or could the circumstances be taken to say the summons was not served.' Mr. Kirk: You have proof of service before you, your Worship. His Worship: I wui direct that a fresh summons be issued to allow the time for tlie hearing, as specified by the Act. In a similar information against Geo. Daulton, Mr. Kirk raised the same objection, and the case was dismissed. KEEPING UNREGISTERED DOGS. Thomas Donovan pleaded not iguilty to having kept two dogs within the Cook County without having paid the registration fees. 'Hie defendant said he had offered the inspector the fees in the street, but Mr. Thelwall refused to accept them. He had since paid the fees. The defendant was fined 10s with 7s costs.
