COMPENSATION TO LICENSEES. (Per Press Association.' AUCKLAND, July 20. To compesate the licensees of the five city hotels recently closed through the carrying of the reduction vote, the Auckland Licensed Victuallers’ Association recently started a subscription list amongst the trade, with the result that nearly £IOOO has been donated. The amount will be distributed at a gathering at the Chamber of Commerce next Tuesday. • A TIMBER MILL BURNED. Lane and Son’s timber mills at Totara North was destroyed by fire last night. The damage is £ISOO above the insurances, which are not yet ascertainable. The timber stacks and adjoining buildings were saved by heavy rain and the exertions of neighbors. THE SHIP LEICESTER CASTLE. The tug Champion left Sydney yesterday for Auckland to tow back the Leicester Castle, which put in here disabled a fortnight ago. New spars and rigging are being sent from England, and will be fitted in Sydney. 'TILE NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
