— " ■ / EAST COAST AIOUNTED RIFLES.

The following orders have been issued by Captain C. Hellior Evans for July: ' Parades.—Troops will parade duriug the month, under their own officers, as follows:

Gisborne troop (Lieut. Hamilton), mounted, at polo paddock, Alakauri, on Thursday, 22nd July, at 2.30 p.m. Dismounted, at Garrisqn Hall, Thursday, 22nd July, at 7.30 p.m. To Karaka troop (Lieut. Poynter), mounted., at Te Karaka range, Thursday, 22nd July, at 2.30 p.m. Dismounted, at Te Karaka Hall, Saturday, 24th July, at 7.30 p.m. Alakauri troop (Lieut. Witters), mounted, at. polo paddock, Alakauri, Thursday, 22nd July, at 2.30 p.m. Dismounted, at Waerenga-a-hika Hall, Tuesday, 20th July, 7.30 p.m. Dress.—Aloufited : Drill order; dismounted, drill ordfer, with field service caps instead of hats. In August a squadron parade will ho held instead of troop parades. Appointments.—Sergeants H. Y. Hughes and Wm. McCullough, Corporal W. N. Walker, and Lance-Cor-poral J. D. Cameron, having passed the examination required by Regulation No. 109, their several appointments, are confirmed as from June 19, 1909.

Examination of acting-Non-Commis-sioned Officers. —The several acting-non-commissioned officers appointed on Ist Alay, 1909, are notified that in order to have their appointments' confirmed it is necessary that they pass tho prescribed examination within six months of date of such acting appointment (vide Regulation No. 167). „ Classes for Officers and Non-Com-missioned Officers. —District classes of instruction will be held in Napier in October for officers from 11th to 16tli, and for non-commissioned officers from 18th to 23rd October. Officers and N.C.O.’s are recommended to take advantage of these classes, and names of those wishing to go should be sent to mo early in order that arrangements can b© made. A daily allowance of 5s and passage to and from Napier will be made to those attending. Issue of Extra Kit.—Haversacks and waterproof sheets arc to he issued to every member, and will he distributed at next dismounted troop parade. These articles are not to be used for any purpose other than military, and failure to produce such articles when ordered will entail a fine. Alembersi are cautioned against using any of the arms, accoutrements, or clothing on issue to them for other than military purposes, and officers and non-coms, are to report any breach coming under their notice.

New Members.—All applications for enrolment from persons desiring to join the squadron sho'uld be in my hands by Ist August, and the election will take place at squadron parade in August. Mobilisation Parade.—ln order to test the'efficiency of the squadron from a service point of view, I have arranged with Captain Sandtmann to telegraph me an order to mobilise the squadron; such order is not to reach me earlier than 24 hours before the squadron is required to be at squadron headquarters (Garrison Hall, Gisborne), or place of assembly of troop leaders, The o.rder is to be telegraphed to me at any time during July or August, and immediately on its receipt I will communicate with the troop leaders, who will warn their troop sergeants and leaders of “fours.” who in turn will warn their No.’s 2,3, and 4. If time permits, the parade will be advertised. Each troop will parade at its own headquarters and march to place of assembly, arriving at, hour ordered. Members can proceed, independently if more convenient. Dress and Equipment.—Full field kit, marching order, service dress. The following- articles are to be carried, in addition to those mentioned in “Orders of Dress” : Haversack (over right shoulder), with half-day’s rations), waterproof sheet and blanket rolled as small as possible, length not to exceed 24 inches, and to be strapped behind saddle. . Signalling.—A class or instruction by Staff Sergeant-Major Browning will be held in Gisborne' if a sufficient number offer themselves for training. Alembers wishing to avail themselves of this opportunity are to send their names to Squadron Sergeant-Alajor Spragg.
