THE ADMIRALTY’S SUBSIDY.

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 21. This morning’s cable news that the Admiralty was to pay £150,000 in 30 years, at the rate of £SOOO annually, as an Auckland dry dock subsidy, referred to an agreement made with the Harbor Board over the equipment of the Calliope dock, on condition that the equipment was approved by the Admiralty, and that certain specified works were carried out, these including a jetty and sheerlegs. As soon as a fair proportion of the work had been carired out the Board received a progress subsidy at the rate of £ISOO a year, which was two years ago increased to £3OOO, 'on it being demonstrated' to the Admi’ral in charge of tlie station that work involving this amount in interest had been carried out. The Admiralty will have the right to priority in the use of the dock for repairs to His Majesty’s ships at any time, subject to' payment by it of the cost of labor and material only. At times when the dock is not required for the use of the warships, t may be used by the Board for the docking of ordinary vessels, the fees charged to be such as the Board may deem desirable. It is further provided ’that in the event of! the earnings oi the dock exceeding the working charges, accounts shall he rendered by the Board to the Admiralty, which will then participate in the profits.
